ELARA (30s): Experienced hiker, pragmatic and observant.

LIAM (30s): Elara's friend, enthusiastic but a bit less experienced.

Setting: A mountain trail, late afternoon. The sun is beginning to set, casting long shadows.

(Scene opens with Elara and Liam walking along a mountain trail. Elara is setting a steady pace, while Liam is slightly behind, slightly breathless.)

LIAM: (Panting) Whoa… Elara… maybe we should… slow down a bit?

ELARA: (Turning, a gentle smile) We're almost at the summit, Liam. Just a little further. You’re doing great.

LIAM: "Great" is a relative term. My legs are starting to feel like lead weights. I should have trained more for this.

ELARA: Next time, we’ll do some more preparatory hikes. How about a shorter one next week?

LIAM: (Chuckles) Sounds like a plan. But right now, I’m thinking less about next week and more about finding a comfortable rock to collapse on.

ELARA: We'll find a spot soon enough. Look at the view though! It’s worth every bit of effort.

(Elara gestures towards the valley below. The sun is painting the landscape in vibrant hues of orange and purple.)

LIAM: (Sighs) You’re right. That is pretty spectacular. It's almost unreal.

ELARA: Nature has a way of doing that. It’s a reminder of how small we are, yet how connected we are to everything around us.

LIAM: I guess that’s why I enjoy these hikes. It’s like a reset button. Away from screens, noise, and all the daily stresses.

ELARA: Exactly. It’s therapeutic. The rhythm of your steps, the fresh air, the challenge… it all clears your head.

(They continue walking in silence for a few moments, enjoying the scenery. They reach a slightly elevated spot overlooking the valley.)

LIAM: This is perfect. I could stay here forever.

(Liam sits down on a large rock, visibly relieved. Elara sits beside him.)

ELARA: I know what you mean. This is my favourite spot on this trail.

LIAM: There’s something very peaceful about being up here, above the world. It feels… humbling.

ELARA: Humbling is a good word for it. It puts things into perspective. Makes you appreciate the smaller things.

LIAM: I was thinking about that earlier, about how much I take for granted. The fresh air, the sound of nature, even just the ability to walk.

ELARA: It’s easy to forget, isn't it? Until you experience something like this, something that takes you away from the everyday.

(They watch the sunset in comfortable silence for several minutes.)

LIAM: You know, I'm already looking forward to our next hike.

ELARA: I figured as much. A shorter one, remember?

LIAM: (Laughing) Deal. But even a short one is better than none.

(The sun dips below the horizon, leaving a fiery glow in the sky. The air grows cooler.)

ELARA: We should start heading back. It’s getting late.

LIAM: Right. Though I’m going to miss this view.

ELARA: We can always come back. The mountains aren’t going anywhere.

(They stand up, preparing to descend the mountain. As they walk, Elara puts a hand on Liam’s back supportively. The play ends with the sound of their footsteps on the trail and the distant sounds of nature.)
